Funch Travel, Hawkeyes Football, and Helping Fans Get Back to Kinnick
There are fans… and then there are Iowa Hawkeyes fans.
If you see me in an airport, at a tailgate, in Tucson, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Manila, or walking around with my family, there is a very good chance I am wearing Iowa gear. That black and gold is not just a color combo for me. It is part of my story.
I have lived in Arizona since 2019, but my heart still makes regular trips back to Iowa City. I have attended 32 of the last 42 Iowa Hawkeyes home football games, plus 1 to 2 away games almost every year. That does not even include bowl games. In fact, the only reason I missed the last two bowl games is because I was abroad.
That is how deep this Hawkeye thing runs.
And now, through Funch Travel, I want to help fellow Hawkeyes make their football travel easier, smarter, and more fun.
From Arizona to Iowa City, I Know the Journey
Living in Arizona has taught me what many Hawkeye fans already know: Iowa fans are everywhere.
There are Iowans in Phoenix, Tucson, Los Angeles, Denver, Las Vegas, Dallas, Chicago, Seattle, and all over the country who still find their way back to Kinnick Stadium when fall rolls around.
Some fans are flying out of Phoenix Sky Harbor. Some are coming from LAX. Some are trying to figure out the best route from Tucson International Airport. Some are flying into Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Chicago, Omaha, or Minneapolis depending on price, schedule, and game weekend plans.
That is where I can help.
Whether you are trying to get from CID in Cedar Rapids to an away game, planning a trip from Phoenix to Iowa City, flying in from Los Angeles, or coordinating a group of family and friends for a weekend at Kinnick, Funch Travel is here to make it simple.
A Hawkeye Fan Helping Hawkeye Fans
This is not just business for me. This is personal.
I have been tailgating in the Finkbine Commuter Lot with my family since 2006. Same spot. Same love for the Hawkeyes. Same tradition.
Over the last 20 years, that family tailgate has grown exponentially. Kids have grown up. New family members have joined. Friends have become family. And yes, if you have tailgated near the bus stop in Finkbine, there is a good chance you have seen our hourly shot ritual that has been going strong for two decades.
That is the kind of tradition college football creates.
It is not just about the game. It is about the road trip, the airport conversations, the hotel lobby full of black and gold, the family photos, the pregame food, the old friends, the new memories, and that feeling when you walk into Kinnick Stadium and remember why you came all that way.
Funch Travel Can Help With Game Day Travel
For the upcoming season, I plan to attend four home games and two away games myself, so I understand the planning that goes into making football weekends happen.
Funch Travel can help Hawkeye fans with:
- Domestic flight research
- Hotel options near Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, or nearby cities
- Away game travel planning
- Family and group trip planning
- Budget-friendly football weekend ideas
- Multi-city travel for fans combining work, family, and football
- Travel protection options
- Simple planning for first-time away game travelers
I know not every fan travels the same way. Some want the cheapest flight possible. Some want convenience. Some are bringing kids. Some are meeting family. Some are turning the game into a full weekend getaway. Some just want to land, get to the tailgate, cheer loud, and get home without travel drama.
Whatever your style is, I can help you think through it.
Hawkeye Travel Is About More Than the Ticket
A football trip is not just buying a ticket and hoping everything works out.
You have to think about flights, rental cars, rideshare options, hotel location, airport choice, game time, tailgate plans, weather, travel delays, and how much energy you want to have left by kickoff.
That is especially true for away games.
If Iowa is playing on the road, the planning can get even more interesting. Do you fly into the closest airport or a cheaper one a little farther away? Do you rent a car? Do you stay near the stadium or closer to nightlife? Do you build in an extra day? Do you need travel protection in case plans change?
These are the little details that can make or break a football weekend.
And because I have been doing this for years, I can help fellow Hawkeyes avoid the “I wish I would have thought of that” moments.
From Manila to Kinnick, Black and Gold Travels Well

One of my favorite recent photos is of me and my newborn baby wearing Iowa gear in Manila. It was taken on May 12, 2026, for his one-month pictures in front of Aston Place by DMCI Homes in Pasay City, Metro Manila, where I own a condo and live part-time.
That photo says a lot about who I am.
I may be building businesses in Arizona. I may spend part of my life in the Philippines. I may be helping people with insurance, travel planning, and life goals. But Iowa football still travels with me everywhere I go.
Black and gold in Manila? Absolutely.
Hawkeye gear in Arizona heat? Of course.
Planning fall Saturdays around Iowa football? That is just called being responsible.
