Travel has been one of my biggest passions for more than 20 years.

Long before I became a travel advisor, I made a personal decision that changed the way I looked at life: I was going to take at least three trips every year and actually use my paid time off while I was still young enough to enjoy it.

At the time, I was working two jobs and making only $10.75 per hour.

That did not stop me.

I decided I would make travel happen on my budget, not someone else’s. That same principle still guides how I travel today and how I help others travel now through Funch Travel.

Travel Is Not Just for People With Big Budgets

One of the biggest myths about travel is that you need to make a lot of money to get started.

You do not.

You need a goal, a plan, flexibility, and someone who can help you understand how to make the numbers work.

I believe travel can be turned into a S.M.A.R.T. goal:

Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Relevant
Time-based

Instead of saying, “I want to travel someday,” we can turn that into:

“I want to take a 3-day trip within six months for less than $700 total.”

Now that is a plan.

Helping Everyday People Travel

In the last twelve months alone, I have helped around 100 people plan budget-friendly domestic travel by showing them how to treat travel like a real goal instead of a wish.

Most of those trips were 2–3 day getaways with an all-in cost of less than $700 for flight, transportation, hotel, and food.

For some people, that was their first real getaway in years. For others, it was the moment they realized travel was not as far away as they thought.

And here is the fun part: three of my clients qualified for free all-expense-paid trips in 2024, and two qualified in 2025. They joined my son and I on trips to places like Seattle, Denver, San Diego, Chicago, New Jersey, and Philadelphia.

That is the kind of travel story I love helping people create.

My Southeast Asia Travel Experience

My travel experience is not just from reading articles or watching videos. I have lived it.

I have spent at least three months in each of the following places as a digital nomad:

Japan
Philippines
Thailand

That experience gave me real-world knowledge of how to navigate transportation, food, lodging, culture, money, and day-to-day travel in a way that makes trips smoother and more memorable.

I also have a personal connection to the Philippines. My wife is Filipino and lives in Manila while we wait through the visa process. We were married in December 2025, and I continue to travel between the United States and the Philippines.

Because of that, I understand Southeast Asia from both the traveler side and the family-life side.

Solo Travel, Family Travel, and First-Time International Travel

Funch Travel is especially helpful for:

  • Solo travelers
  • First-time international travelers
  • Families
  • Parent-child trips
  • Short stays
  • Long stays
  • Budget travelers
  • Digital nomad style travelers
  • Travelers nervous about Southeast Asia

Before meeting my wife, my son and I built years of father-son adventures together. Just the two of us, we traveled to around 100 domestic and international destinations.

That experience taught me how to travel with kids, manage travel stress, plan realistic itineraries, handle unexpected issues, and still enjoy the adventure.

Travel does not have to be fancy to be unforgettable. Some of the best memories come from simple trips planned well.

I Do More Than Book Travel

Funch Travel is not just about booking a flight or hotel.

I help people understand the trip.

That can include:

  • How to prepare for a first international flight
  • What to expect at airports
  • How to move around a new city
  • How to build a realistic budget
  • What travel protection to consider
  • How to avoid overpacking
  • How to plan excursions
  • How to travel with confidence
  • How to make a short stay feel meaningful
  • How to prepare for a longer stay abroad

In some cases, I have even joined clients on excursions and helped them navigate travel in real time.

That is travel support with a little extra sauce — the good kind, not the “mystery airport sandwich” kind.

Why Southeast Asia?

Southeast Asia is one of the best regions in the world for travelers who want culture, food, adventure, beautiful scenery, and strong value for their money.

The Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and nearby destinations all offer unique experiences. For many travelers, Southeast Asia can be a perfect first step into international travel because it can offer incredible experiences at a more approachable cost than many other parts of the world.

But it can also feel intimidating if you have never been.

That is where having someone with real experience can make the process easier.

Final Thought

My travel philosophy is simple:

Do not wait until life is perfect to start seeing the world.

Start with your budget. Start with your schedule. Start with one realistic trip.

Whether you make minimum wage, own a business, work full-time, have kids, or feel like travel is out of reach, there may be a way to build a plan that works for you.

Funch Travel exists to help you take that first step and make the world feel a little smaller, friendlier, and easier to explore.
